Ray's Indian Originals had it's beginning with one counter in the front of Ray's TV store at North Dekalb Mall. At that time Ray was travelling back and forth to the west as the "token Indian" for the American Lutheran Church. Traveling on "Indian time" (you never know when), he would bring a gift back home and hold it in the door to see if he could come in. This was the starting inventory.
From this, over the next 29 (twenty-nine) years came the gallery of today, second to none east of the Mississippi. Peggy has applied all her God given talent along with ongoing education that grows each day. Her credentials are most impressive. They include the Emory Fine Arts museum items, Delta Airline acquisitions and the Ed and Norma Seiferle collection donated to the South Dakota Art Museum. in Brookings South Dakota.
She also maintains the catalogs and pricing from Sotherbys, Allards, Butterfields and Munn auctions. These serve as a reference for comparing ongoing values.
Ray continues to do what people with a Native mama and incurable white daddy does best; killing flies and telling stories. The Gallery, now nested behind the TV Shop at 90 Avondale Road enjoys the reputation, (1), of being approached like a speakeasy and (2), this best "un-kept" secret has been shared with some of the most famous and notables from all over the world. These people, who are serious collectors, enjoy the privacy of this type of location.
The tradition will be carried on now that Jonathan, the number four son, has come on board to head this Internet production.
